A grant is an allowance of funding given to an organization, facility, individual, or business in order to ensure that the group or individual continues to do the work that the grantmaker values. The grant money isn’t given away at random, though. The organizations, facilities, or individuals that are in need of grant funding have to apply for the money by creating grant proposals.

Grant proposals are usually written statements sent to grantmakers concerning why the individual or organization is requesting grant funding, what they intend to do with that funding, and reasons why they should receive the grant money. Grantmakers are charitable groups, corporations, wealthy individuals, or various government agencies that give away the grant funding. In order for grant proposals to be successful they must be concise statements that convey the need for grant funding and why that grant funding can’t be achieved through traditional means. Additionally, there is almost always a unique set of guidelines, set by the grantmaker, that should be followed strictly in order to get your proposal looked at seriously by those who make the final decisions regarding the grant money.
